Sweet Charity
DRAMA lovers have put their money where their mouth is by setting up a brand new local company, the New Penny Theatre Company.
Jeff Eales is one of the ten people who are putting up the cash to give local actors the opportunity to perform in professional theatres in the area and give local talent the chance to shine.
"We are a group of people who have a passion for doing good drama using really good venues. All of us have done a lot of community work in drama and we want to give people within the Bucks area the chance to use the superb local theatre facilities."
The company¥ is putting on the ward-winning Broadway musical Sweet Charity at The Wycombe Swan from September 17 to 20.
“We will start with nothing and fund the show with our own money. It costs £50,000 to put a big production on at a professional theatre like the
Swan but we only need to put up 10 per cent of the costs before the production. Any profits we make will stay in the funds of the company," says Jeff.
The company has no membership and the cast are only members for the duration of the production they are in. They are looking for interested and enthusiastic people of all levels of experience to take part In future productions. Call Jeff on 07803617112 or e-mall Melissa@newpenny.co.uk for more information.
Plans are well advanced for Alan Ayckbourn's Comedy A Chorus of Disapproval, at the Elgiva / Theatre in Chesham in January, and Gypsy at The Wycombe Swan next April. l
Tickets for Sweet Charity priced from £10 are available from Wycombe Swan Box Office Tel 01494 512000.
