Our Production of: California Suite - Four Comedies by Neil Simon.
Following their hugely successful A Chorus of Disapproval, The Odd Couple, Noises Off, Stepping Out, Season’s Greetings and Out of Order, New Penny Theatre Company returns to the Elgiva with an evening of, not one, but four classic Neil Simon comedies, all set in the Beverly Hills Hilton in Los Angeles.
In California Suite, each of the four playlets give us a glimpse of a variety of guests in the same suite at the Beverly Hills Hotel at different times of the same year.
New York is a heartfelt, insightful, yet scathingly funny portrait of a divorced couple trying to do the best thing for their teenage daughter.
Philadelphia is a free-wheeling farce about a man who wakes up with an unconscious hooker in his bed and his wife on the way up to the room in the elevator.
London concentrates on an eccentric British couple, in Los Angeles for the Academy Awards ceremony, who have had a special relationship for many years.
Chicago is a madcap moment of physical comedy that focuses on two affluent couples who are best friends, until they go on an extended vacation together and end up having constant squabbles.
Neil Simon is the world’s most performed playwright after Shakespeare and undoubtedly the most commercially successful playwright in history. He has had 30 of his plays performed on Broadway. His plays have been translated into dozens of languages from Chinese to Russian and more of his plays have been adapted to film than those of any other American playwright. A great night’s entertainment is assured.
